U.S.S. Enterprise Bridge - The Motion Picture

High demand in the mid 1970s for Star Trek to return to television after the original series was cancelled after three seasons in the late sixties prompted Parmount Studios to begin working on bringing Trek back to the small screen as the planned Star Trek: Phase II. Scripts were written, sets were constructed, and actors both old and new were signed on to the project. But the surprising success of Star Wars in 1977 caused Paramount to alter course and instead decided to bring Star Trek to the big screen. The set that was partially finished for Star Trek: Phase II was given a facelift for it's big-screen debut. The set, in modified form, would go on to serve as the bridge of the Enterprise in the next three films, and the bridge of many other starships, including the battle bridge of the Enterprise-D in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
